The World Food Programme (WFP) has strengthened its partnership with Kasese District to enhance flood preparedness and response. As part of this collaboration, WFP, in partnership with the Office of the Prime Minister, recently convened a multi-stakeholder workshop from 4th to 7th Nov to finalize and validate Flood Anticipatory Action Plans (AAPs) for the flood-prone districts of Kasese, Ntoroko, and Kisoro.
The four-day workshop brought together key stakeholders from government agencies, humanitarian organizations, and district authorities to review, plan, and validate the AAPs. The goal is to ensure that the plans are operationally sound, contextually relevant, and ready to guide timely action ahead of forecasted flood events.
“We are proud to partner with WFP to enhance our flood preparedness and response capabilities,” said Mr. Kikusa Mustafah , Chairperson DDMC ,Kasese “This collaboration demonstrates our shared commitment to building resilient communities that can withstand the impacts of climate change.”
The development of these AAPs is a crucial step towards proactive disaster risk reduction and community resilience. By anticipating and preparing for potential flood events, Kasese District can take timely action to protect lives, livelihoods, and infrastructure.
The initiative is part of WFP’s broader commitment to supporting Uganda’s efforts in disaster risk reduction and community resilience, with support provided by the Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (DG ECHO) and funding from the Government of Denmark’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Through this partnership, WFP and Kasese District are working together to build a more resilient future for the people of Kasese. By leveraging their expertise and resources, they can reduce the impact of floods .
