President Museveni Commissions Shs53 Billion USMID funded roads projects in Kasese Municipality.

 

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has officially commissioned a series of completed road infrastructure projects worth Shs 53 billion in Kasese Municipality, constructed under the Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development (USMID) program. The commissioned roads, including Rwenzori Road, Bus Circular Road, and Lincoln Road, among others, mark a significant boost to Kasese’s urban transformation and transport efficiency.

The Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Judith Nabakooba, hailed the projects as a symbol of progress and a model for urban development. She noted that Kasese Municipality has emerged as one of the top-performing urban centers in Uganda, with local revenue increasing from Shs 399 million to Shs 1.4 billion. The Minister attributed this growth to the investments in infrastructure, which have ushered in modern amenities and economic opportunities.

Improved Road Networks: Over 70 kilometers of roads upgraded

Modern Amenities: Proper drainage systems, green spaces, and comprehensive solid waste management strategy
Economic Growth: Local revenue increased from Shs 399 million to Shs 1.4 billion
Enhanced Security: Improved street lighting and vibrant night .

During the commissioning ceremony, President Museveni emphasized the importance of prioritization and discipline in national development. He noted that the real challenge facing Uganda’s development is not a lack of commitment but scattered thinking and the pursuit of instant gratification. The President reaffirmed the NRM’s development philosophy, saying, “Security first, then roads and transport, then electricity for the private sector, education for our children and others.”

President Museveni concluded with a powerful call for unity and discipline among leaders and communities, saying, “Let us stop working in fragments. One by one makes a bundle. With discipline and prioritization, we shall continue to transform Uganda.”

The Mayor of Kasese Municipality, Mr. Chance Kahindo, praised the successful implementation of road infrastructure, describing it as a symbol of accountability, urban progress, and government commitment to local development. He noted that Kasese was recognized nationally for its efficient use of funds, with Shs 49 billion spent directly on road construction out of the Shs 53 billion allocated .
