Snow Cover on the Ruwenzoris - The status of the snow cover on the Rwenzori indicates the trends in climate change. It is believed that if climatic trends continue unchecked, glaciers on the Rwenzoris would disappear within 20 years.
Soil erosion is one of the environmental challenges the district is facing and has been the most important form of soil degradation in the district. The reason behind this is the ever increasing population that accelerates the rate of land fragmentation.
