Weather
Kasese
receives an average rainfall ranging between 900-1600mm
annually and two rain seasons that come between March
to May and August to November. Temperatures normally
range between 23.9ºc and 30.0ºc. |
Population
Kasese District is estimated to be having a population of 669,958 people with a population growth rate of 3.6% per annum. It is estimated that there are 133,992 households with an average of 4.9 people per household.
But
there are also other groups in the district who include
the Banyankole, Basongora and Bakiga. There is also
common usage of English, Swahili and Luganda. |
Infrastructure
The
presence of a tarmac road linking Kasese to other districts
like Kabarole and Bushenyi, however, enables the district
to transport its produce to other parts of the country.
Most
of the produce from Kasese gets markets in urban centres
in the western and central regions of Uganda. Passion
fruits for example are one of the main crops from Kasese
sold in most urban areas throughout the country. Kasese’s
position along the border with the Democratic Republic

Kasese
district produces several food and cash crops
and livestock products. Over 85 percent of the
people in the district depend on agriculture for
their livelihood. Among the food crops produced
in the area are finger millet, cassava, maize,
ground nuts, sorghum, potatoes and matooke. The
district also practices horticulture farming that
includes fruits like passion fruits and vegetables.

Kasese
district has one district hospital and 63 health
units, out of which 16 are government-aided while
46 are privately owned. The various healthy units
owned by the government are categorised as Health
Centre 1V which are units at county level; Health
Centre III are at sub county level and Health
Centre II which are operate at parish level.
Although
the district health services have been facing
many constraints that include inadequacy of health
facilities, delayed disbursement of funds from
the government and understaffing, some achievements
have been made. Among them is the construction
of two maternity wards at Kasanga and Karambi
and an outpatient department block.
The
district has also constructed a medical theatre
at Busongora North health sub-district while a
doctor’s house is under construction.
