 KADDE - NET: Is an umbrella organization (Network) of all civil society organization operating in Kasese District, thus Community Based Organizations (CB0), Faith Based Organizations (FBO), Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), and other Non-State Actors in Kasese District. Kaddenet was founded in 1997.

Kasese District has one of the most vibrant civil society  organisations in Uganda which use a right based and participatory approaches to implementing projects in communities which have led to projects ownership and sustainability.

An aggregator of all civil society Organisations, Kaddenet also has thematic networks which subscribe to it. It is also a member of regional and national networks.

Kaddenet together with her 800 member organisations  has distinguished itself as a national learning centre in the Rwenzori region in particular and Uganda as a whole especially with regard to optimum collaboration with both the local and central governments

The network develops programmes and promotes collaboration among stakeholders in the areas of lobbying and advocacy, Data and information Management, capacity building, Linking and Networking / facilitation of sectoral co-ordination.

KADDENET is thus a multi-purpose agency. It is a capacity building agency, a resource and research centre, an advocacy watchdog, as well as a linking and coordination intermediary agency. This is inline with the members’ aspirations and the all-encompassing poverty eradication mission.

KADDENET cherishes the core values and believes in accountability, transparency gender responsiveness, environmental sensitivity, unity and equity, commitment and respect. These values and principles guide all programs

 COMPETENCIES
Kaddenet and her member organisations have built civic competencies  in the following:

  • Piloted the Public Private Partnership (PPP) Strategy for development in Uganda in collaboration with Kasese District local government.
  • Successfully piloted the Localization of the Millennium Development Goals in Kasese district
  • Local Economic Development (LED).
  • Deepening Democracy and good governance.
  • Strengthening Micro finance and Cooperatives including livelihood programs such as IGAs, VSLA,SILC.
  • HIV/AIDS Prevention, care and support including ART management and drug adherence.
  • Sustainable agriculture and organic farming, Food security and Agriculture marketing and processing.
  • Human rights and civil peace including Ethnic minority empowerment.
  • soft and hard ware Water and sanitation involvement.
  • ICT AND Information sharing promotion.
  • Climatic change, Environment conservation and Biodiversity.
  • Emergency Relief, risk and disaster management.
  • Child rights and OVCs and women.

Kaddenet and her member oreganisations have specialized in one or more of the  sectoral chapters. These sectoral chapters include:

  • Community Development, including women, youth, children, and culture.
  • Production and Marketing, including agriculture, environment and appropriate technology.
  • Human Rights and Good Governance, including human rights, democracy, peace building, and disaster management.
  • Health Including,HIV/AIDS, Malaria Control and other diseases, Water and other Sanitation.
  • Microfinance including Savings and Credit, Training in micro finance management and group formation.
  • Tourism which includes Training communities in Tourism site development and management, Tour Travel and Guiding.
  • Education which includes Girl child education sensitization, debates on Chidren rights, Reproductive Health and HIV/AIDS,Strikes and Fire outbreak prevention, Environmental education i.e. Disaster and risk management, climatic change, Careers Guidance

 MEMBERSHIP

There are two types of Membership. Full and Associate Membership
-Full Membership is open to all CSO’s in Kasese District and it’s upon payment of a fee that is determined by the  general assembly, Associate membership is open to all international agencies operating in Uganda on  agreed terms.

Currently this Network has 800 members both NGO and CBO that are local and international, that implement the sectoral chapters in their various areas of this District and through them a lot of impact have been realized

A well governed, socially just and poverty free society of enlightened people enjoying their human dignity in clean and safe environment.

 Mission
To empower civil society in Kasese district through enhancement of skills, linkages, enlightened and actively influence development processes for effective and efficient service delivery in abid to attain sustainable livelihoods.

CURRENT INSTITUTIONAL CAPACITY OF KADDENET

Leadership

KADDENET is headed by a Board of Directors (BoD) comprising of seven (7) democratically elected members who are the key policy-making body of the network.

 The Human Resource
The secretariat is headed by the Programme Coordinator, who is in charge of the overall administration of the secretariat. At the secretariat are (5) five technical staff who carry out the day to day activities. The secretariat is being assisted by 10 qualified and self motivated Volunteers.

Physical Infrastructure

KADDENET is physically located at Rukooki in one of the District Local Government premises. The office premises were offered by the district administration. Kaddenet meets the expenses for electricity, water and other general maintenance.

 Technical expertise in Thematic Areas

In relation to its thematic areas of operation, KADDENET Member Organisations(MOs) are endowed with skills and knowledge in their different technical fields. The secretariat is mostly concerned with organisational development issues of the member organizations. In a bid to realize commendable levels of organisational development of its MOs, the secretariat coordinates capacity support programmes through hiring consultants, and forming partnerships with capacity development organisations.
 
 2.7 Donor Relations

KADDENET and her member organisations are currently being funded by EU –Civil Society Capacity Building Programme, Care International DFID, DENIVA, Uganda NGO Forum. SNV is supporting capacity building by providing Technical support, SCiUG supports children rights initiatives, EU-COMMISSION, HIVOS, DED,BTC to mention a few
